Although onions are one of the most common ingredients used in cooking, they are not exactly the easiest to prepare for cooking. For most people, especially kids, cutting onions means a lot of work. The problem most people deal with when cutting onions is tearing or burning eyes and not knowing how to approach the onion with the knife.

Without Crying
An easy way to prevent your eyes from burning while cutting onions is to refrigerate onions you might use a day or two ahead or pop them in the freezer for 40 minutes.

Another method would be to cut out the bulb part of the onion where the roots come out. Doing this releases gases from the onion that would make you cry before you start cutting it.
